    I think it's generally a pro.
A dog is a deterrant for burglars.

I've had a look round and quite often you will find that damage by pets to your contents is excluded, so the con bit doesn't apply.
With some comapnies it may be part of the optional extra accidental damage cover that you pay extra for but not part of the standard cover.
So if you have a pet you might want to be picky about getting a policy that does cover damage.

I don't think I've ever been asked if I have a dog or cat when getting house insurance quotes - except that if you're getting cover for accidental damage to contents then you'll probably be charged extra if you have pets.

I've never seen a discount given for having a guard dog - but then I haven't been looking . Most of the dogs I've known or lived with would have welcomed any burglar as long as he had a biscuit in his pocket :D

I dont think I have ever been asked either, but most accidental damage clauses exclude damage caused by domestic pets.

probably marketing, to see if you want pet insurance?
  • Hi,
I always go with the pro. As dogs always do take care of us. They even protect our house from thieves.
