Hoover on it's way out, recommendations?

Hi, I seem to have no luck at all when it comes to hoovers, I have been 4 in 6 years, this one has lasted just over 3 so not too bad, but now it's starting to fail, the suction has dropped right off despite being a cyclone one and all the filters being washed and cleaned, and the attatchment fittings keep falling off mid hoover, also the pet brush doesn't work anymore, so time to think about a replacement. I am urging more towards a cylinder one this time, as I have no large areas of floor but lots of obsticles to hoover round, and I seem to use the attatchments more on this one than the upright functions. I need one that's well made, powerful and with a pet brush, and I have a budget up to about £80, anyone any ideas? There are so many around, I have seen some Vax mach ones in TJ hughes but there were about 6 diffferent ones, all under budget, but the staff knew nothing about them or what the differences were, so I didn't feel comfortable buying there. Any advice much appreciated.

    Good old Henry every time

A brilliant little workhorse, does exactly what you tell him to do and lasts for years.
make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

    Miele Cat and Dog.

Fantastic hoover that copes brilliantly with plenty of hair (2 long haired collies and 2 long haired females!)

I know it's over your budget, but it will last for years and work out cheaper that buying a new hoover every couple of years.
Here I go again on my own....

Thanks for the replies guys, I use a Henry at work but to be honest the attatchments seems to fall off! That Miele one would be fantastic but I have no means of raising that sort of money just now

i am in exactly the same position as the OP.

OH said he thought the hoover was going yest morn, and i when i came home from work it was kaput:mad:

we normally buy reconditioned bissells direct (Lift-off uprights), but we cannot wait the week or two plus they don't have any good deals at the mo.

i have been searching this morn for one as good and as cheap as poss for pet/hairs.

based on reviews, i am trying to decide between two Vax uprights with attachments at Argos:

VAX V-2000U Pet Hair Bagless Upright @ £54.99

VAX Centrix Pet Hair Bagless Upright @ £44.99

my head says slight leaning towards the first, but my wallet says the second;) - all thoughts gratefully received.....

It has to be a Henry. Only make which is both powerful and reliable. Only worry is you get the feeling that its going to suck your carpets up.

If cost wasn't an issue would anyone recommend Dyson over all the others?

That is a LOT of pets :D

On the topic of the vacuum cleaner, I am a Miele fan too. My mum has had hers for 17 years and it's still working! And mine does its job so well, although I don't have quite as many pets as Sammy_Dee :)

A friend of mine has a Henry and she is very happy with hers too, and she has a lot of pets as well.
