cannot open images?

in Techie Stuff
just dowloaded a few covers and cannot open the image ,i get message saying this is not a valid bitmap file /or format not currently supported?
tried opening with paintshop pro 8/microsoft photo editor/ windows pic and fax viewer/nero photosnap file with no luck.
using aol9 ,been ages since i last did this and never had a problem b4
any ideas anyone
