AA Renewal Price
I have AA basic cover with the Lloyds TSA account. I added Homestart and Relay as optional extras and have just received my renewal which is £107.50.
I have checked the AA website and if I join as a brand new customer it will cost me £99. With quid co and cashback it will be £57.
I called the AA to ask them to explain why it is more expensive to renew 2 elements of my cover when I can get 3 elements cheaper.
They explained that as TSB was their customer then those were the rates set by them. They said I could "break away" from my TSB cover and join as a new member at £99 but next year it would cost me £166 to renew. I asked if I were to cancel next year at renewal time, how long does it have to be before I could join again as a new customer to take advantage of cheaper new customer rates and I was told 6 weeks.
I don't really want to drive without breakdown cover so would this be feasible - just keep the basic cover with my Lloyds TSB account and also join the RAC and include the homestart and relay cover with them as joining them would also be cheaper than renewing with the AA.
Sorry for being long winded.

It's normally cheaper to switch from the RAC to the AA every other year as a new customer.0

I got my first renewal this year after my special introductory rate last year and for Recovery and Relay had gone up from £70 to £144. I did a few online searches and found the equivalent for £70 with green flag then rang the AA. The renewal dept must have been in a good mood because they gave it me for £68!! Bargain.
I think a lot of these companies try it on and see if you fail to bother to check your renewal.Politicians and diapers have one thing in common. They should both be changed regularly, and for the same reason.0 -

AA bumped my renewal price to nearly £200 on a policy that new customers could get for £99 (+ cashback).
AA's response was that the cashback doesn't come from the AA and so they can't give existing members the new member price. Let's set aside the fact that this is entirely incorrect.
As the AA were not interested in retaining my custom, I joined the RAC for just £69 (with cashback) for Roadside, Recovery, At Home and Onward Travel thanks to a special £60 cashback offer via Quidco (think this may have expired now).
I'm sure the situation will be reversed next year. Additionally I see the RAC have a clause in their terms and conditions specifically stating that existing customers may not benefit from new customer offers until 120 days after the RAC policy ends. So they spend all that money on adverts and then shoo customers away after a year. Great strategy there :rotfl:0 -
I've just spent 6 (yes, six) minutes on the phone and, as a loyal customer of 2 years (lol) the AA have reduced my renewal for personal Roadside and Relay from £119 (full price) to £69 (new customer price). They did the same last year, too, funnily enough, as soon as I mentioned I could get the same cover cheaper at RAC (bluff!)...0

RAC allow use tesco vouchers and pay the "new customer" price every year. Don't know why AA wont.0

If youre not bothered about homestart, on the back of todays Mirror the joining fee is £35 and you get a £20 Boots voucher.
A years cover for £15 cant be bad.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

You shouldn't need to though.
By that they admit they're making money at £69, so why do they have to con loyal customers out of £50 more?0
