Hi,
My current property is entirely electric and has one storage heater and an immersion heater in the bathroom for water.
I am looking to change the heating to something more controlled as in the winter months the house is freezing and costs through the roof!
Any advice on options available and also not something too costly to install (if possible) there is no gas connection at the property at the minute.
Thanks
Richard

Pay the £800 that you mentioned in your other thread to get the gas installed. Borrow it if you have to. Electric heating is not cheap. E7 wastes heat during the day when you don't need it and peak rate convector heaters cost 3 times that of gas for the same amount of heat. Although when most people switch to gas from electric they tend to use twice as much more because it's so cheap. You need to do some calculations but you should get the £800 and any costs to install a boiler and central heating back in less than 10 years. Then after that you'll be saving hundreds of pounds each year. It also adds value to your property so if you did sell you will get most of your money back. Many buyers won't even consider a property that does not have gas central heating already installed.:footie:

Thanks HappyMJ
It was looking that I would have to go down the full new gas installation route. Its just the 800 pounds gas connection then the 3-4k for a full GCH is pretty expensive. Must get saving! Thanks for your replyLBM Jan 14 - Debt £30,500.48

Got a new version storage heater, Dimplex FXLi earlier in year, unfortunately after the real cold spell, but its a lot more efficient and more controllable than older FXL as well as being slightly smaller and slimmer!
Don't know how much cheaper it will be as not had it long enough, but its a definite improvement and puts out more heat.
Costs also depend on what deal of Economy7 you are paying.
I live in a road with very similar houses and my power bills for electric are not that dissimilar from neighbours gas/electric combined and up to this year have been on a more expensive green tariff.0
