OH bought me a kindle for my birthday on Saturday.

Just taken it back - doesn't he know that I love books? Taught English for most of my life. Like to pass books on or lend them to family and friends. Love the smell of new books.

Just been to a lovely garden centre. Does your wife hanker after anything in that line?

I can see that this wasn't the gift for you, but DH, DS2, Big Sis and I all love books, but also have Kindles. The reading matter required for a week's holiday was at least 3 books each ...

We first bought one for DH, only I pinched it when I did my arm in half way through a Stieg Larson. They are seriously meaty books and I couldn't hold it to finish it!

So, to the OP, don't buy a Kindle or a DS or other whizzy gadget because YOU want one, but if you can find out whether she would like one, it could be a winner.

    Thanks to all.

I'm thinking on the lines of Ruby jewellry, but I was hoping for a bit more originality.

    Thanks anyway.

It is also our Ruby Anniversary this year. My husband and I are having a new windscreen for our motorbike :) and some sort of party. I doubt whether we will buy each other extra presents, we never do.....we tend to buy things that WE want as a couple.

I am not a jewellery person and would much prefer a boxed set of DVDs of something of my choice. Or a plant for the garden. Or a trip to the theatre.

Just in case the OP's wife is like me and would not appreciate jewellery!

(edited to add: For the DVDs Red Dwarf would do, or Scarlet Feather....but certainly not Black Adder!:rotfl::rotfl:)
