He might not think it is necessary. I am on my sixth house, and perhaps 8th mortgage, and never ever got a copy of mine until recently!0

Its not smaller if its in one name only though.
Its only smaller if you choose to borrow less. Choosing to borrow less can be done in both names too.I am a Mortgage Adviser

My comment was in response toAnd yes, he doesn't want us to overstretch and is worried that later on when we decide to have kids that we might lose my income and be scrimping etc.
Seems sensible forward planning.0 -
I would personally insist on sitting down and going through both credit reports. It's good to talk about money and essential if you're going to be linking up your credit histories.
We have a free guide on couples and credit reports, just google 'living together experian' if you want to have a look.

Maybe I'm cynical, but I'd think the opposite. Surely you have to assume that he is worried that the credit report might show up something that he hasn't disclosed to his other half - why get so defensive if he has nothing to hide. If they are getting a mortgage together, he should be open and up-front about his finances.
But hes the one who is driving the idea of buying the house.
I suspect he knows he has paid everything on time so wont need to check.
Having said that, I wont exactly fall off my chair if your right!!!

I know that the OP didn't come on here looking for relationship advice, and I have no prolems with someone being private about thier affairs. The worry for me is the 'really, really flipped out' bit which, assuming the OP was not exaggerating for effect, is a pretty odd response even if his parents are embroiled in some sort of divorce nightmare.
OP if you trust that he is good with money and not the type to hide any problems then go with it. Seems like he sets a lot of store by being the provider and feels attacked when you "question his ability to" in his mind?Emergency savings: 4600
