British Gas ruined my credit rating!

That was pretty much my point. That it's Experian who have chosen to dock those 300 points, not the supplier. Experian are the credit rating company that British Gas use so it will have been them, not one of the other ones, who made the choice.I am an employee of British Gas, however the views expressed on this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Centrica, its subsidiaries or affiliated companies.0

As I have combined Gas and electricity with British gas and was out of the country my bills were not paid for 3 months, no excuse for this other than a mistake on my part. This one bill though has resulted in 6 red / amber defaults on my credit rating. ( one each for gas and electricity for each month that the bill remained unpaid ) this has resulted in my credit rating changing from 960 to 620 marking me as one of the worst 30% for credit in the UK....... for one missed bill. Self righteousness on the part of others on the forum is all very well until an unforseen circumstance obliterates 30 years of positive history.
Hmmm, so those who see the importance - as well as the moral obligation - of paying off debts promptly are self-rightous are they? Then what do you call those who have a flippant attitude to debts and go off on holiday withou ensuring any debts due to be paid in that time simply don't get paid, God's gift to service suppliers? The ideal trading partner?
Would you like to lend to someone who thinks it's a great excuse not to pay debts because they have gone on holiday?
Look - your payment history seems to be an actual history of what you did, or didn't do, for whatever reason. People can deide whether to extend credit again towards you based on that history. What on earth is self-rightous or even not sensible about that? You can even add a note on your record saying you didn't pay for 3 months because you were on holiday (do you think that is a reasonable excuse?) It may well have been an oversight, out of character and everything else (seems self-evident in fact from your full history), but even so, the facts stand. Unless you are a banker, a criminal or a politician (or all three), we usually end up paying one way or another for our misakes.
What is your alternative to this system? That a false history is recorded?, or perhaps no history?
But it's not the end of the world. As time passes, your credit rating will again improve I expect.0 -
