Mopeds - Advice needed
We gone from a 2 car to a 1 car family as I was car sharing to work. Now my car share has moved to another office. I was tempted to find another car share but I thought I would get a moped because I could do with the 2nd form of transport at other times.
My questions....
1) Can I ride a 50cc moped on my normal license (34 yr old)?
2) Best deals for a new moped?
3) Likely running costs (2 miles each way)?
Many thanks in advance

It would be best for you to contact a local bike school,You would be able to ride up to a 125cc on your license(with `L` plates) but I would recommend taking a CBT course...about £75 just to prepare you for life on 2 wheels...I hope this helps...p.s as for running costs a 50cc moped would probably do 100mpg !I would love some decent telly on a Saturday night0

To ride a 125 he must do CBT, the C stands for compulsory
I would recommend something bigger than a moped anyway as they are lethally slow and present a hazard to traffic if travelling out of town. What goes around - comes around0 -
About 20 years ago I was in a similar situation and went for a Honda C90. Just under 60mph and 130mpg as well as being easy to ride.
That was pre-CBT but I'd recommend some training anyway.Can I help?0 -
If all you want a moped for is to go 2 miles to work and back, then I would suggest a hybrid bicycle would be better. If you think you will use it a lot more then I agree that sometinng bigger than 50cc is better. I started off on the good old Honda90. Top speed of 45+ and over 100mpg and good weather protection. I only bought it as I failed my car test and the busses went on strike, but I`m still riding bikes 30 years later. I think that you can ride a small moped on a car licence if you passed your test many years ago, although the rules may have changed again.0
