I worked in a sex chatline office ten years ago. (Before that i was on a New Deal work placement with no job available at the end of it and the chatline office were the ONLY people offering me a job so what was i supposed to do. Say no and stay on benefits and be treated with contempt by people not unlike some of the posters on here???!!!)
    A. This chatline job was the best paid job i ever had.
    B. Im a bit of a nightbird so i liked the hours. Most shifts started at 5 or 6pm and finished at 3am.
    C. I was treated with more respect in this job ( by the owners and the other girls in the office) than i ever was by the managers and some of the colleagues in the subsequent shop jobs that i had.
So go for it OP. Dont listen to some on here who think you should know your place and get a more manual or lower paid job.

I must admit to finding it amusing to see how some posters on here are trying to misrepresent me as some sort of prude from the Victorian Age:rotfl::rotfl: - I'm far from being either a prude or judgemental. But if it suits you to see me as a very different person to what I am actually like - be my guest:rotfl:

My concern was and is purely concern for the welfare of the O.P. - or, more to the point, her children.

But if she isnt concerned with that welfare - then why should I be either?....so I'm outa here...before anyone else tries to assume that I am this rather different person to what I ACTUALLY am:)

LOL, hope your kids don't find out what you are doing for a living - or worse, one of their friends!!! God, they'll be the talk of the school.

the usual reason such companies ask for a pic is as a belt and braces check that you are over 18

But that doesn't stop a 14 year old girl submitting a picture of her older sister - or any other documentation for that matter.

Good point, but the companies involved in this type of work are very, very thorough with identity checks. The fines they face for getting it wrong are crippling.

Reputable firms insist on full model release documentation before any pics are used. The original pic will not be the only one required so no-one would get very far by submitting pics of someone else. My worry earlier was that the OP may have given that release when sending the photo.

Identity protection is also taken very seriously. When done properly it is impossible for punters to have any idea of the true identity of the PSO. Operators who are careless about identity security can quickly find their contracts terminated. Naturally, any photos used will be a risk, but it is quite easy to change so many things so that the person in the photos hardly recognisable as the the person in the street.

Viktory and Ceridwen, times are very hard, you might be suprised at how many women at the school gates actually are PSOs. Applications for these jobs have rocketed recently.

It is an acting job, it isn't for everyone. But those who can make it work for them can earn a bit more than they would stacking shelves. PSO's have complete flexibility with working times, how often and when they work is usually their own decision. An hour here and an hour there soon adds up.

It takes a great deal of research, imagination, quick thinking and scrupulous record keeping to be an effective PSO. Also, with time and perseverence it can get away from being sex all the time. PSO's who only offer sex tend not to do very well at all.

Strangely enough, once past the first few months of some stomach churning calls, many of us are able to take some control over the job and begin to genuinely enjoy it. I honestly felt far more "used and abused" in some of my office jobs than I do working an explicit phone line. And that was the LAST thing I expected when I first tried this kind of work out.

    Good luck OP. :)
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

I think that the other thread referred to here was closed when there were two or three posters on other threads complaining bitterly about the phone bills that had been run up by partners calling these lines and the upset that it caused in relationships!

    Maybe a conflict of interests?

Ceridwen i was NOT having a go at you. In fact i thought you had some valid points. My issue was with the comments that Body Electric made about having no self respect to do this type of job. In my case it was the ONLY company who offered me a job when i was going through a spell of unemployment.
What a choice for some poor women though. Stay on the dole and get called a benefit scrounger
or take a chatline job and get told you must have no self respect. Sometimes though i do get the impression that some members of the middle classes are probably frightened that women from the working class might be earning a good wage from this instead of a lower paid menial job. I was earning £12.600 a year doing this ten years ago.

It is also very likely that some of those members of the middle classes are using the services of the chatlines!

You are absolutely right d passmore and it is the upper classes as well. I remember talking to this bloke with a very very posh Sandhurst type accent. If anyone on this thread would like to know about the whole situation that led me to this job in the first place you could go to the Benefits and Tax Credits board and read the post ive just left on "Refuse Work Placement under Flexible New Deal.
