My neighbour has just brought their computer over as it has trojans. I have installed malawarebytes and removed 185 files that were infected and am trying to update it as it is vista sp1 and has never had any updates installed. The thing is the MS updater programme will not install any updates. she can not find the back up cd's and I can not reinstall drivers without them on this thing or can not find how to.

This is an acer Aspire 6935 32bit

You should be able to download all of the drivers you need here:

    http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_6935.html

What error message are you getting that is stopping Windows Update from working?

Probably has a factory restore partition (acer erecovery) if you want to backup all the data and go down that route,

    or

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=891ab806-2431-4d00-afa3-99ff6f22448d

and scan with another virus scanner - some in section 3 here

Good luck with that....youre fighting a losing battle. As closed has said, backup all and restore if the partition is avaliable

Would the owner notice if Ubuntu was installed instead?

Post the full malwarebytes log here when it (eventually) finishes

Really could do with a system reset if possible though, as it sounds like its seriously bad

Hi Am at a loss as have found out this person stored movies they downloaded from some place called utorrent on D driver and I can not find any partition and there are no updates on this laptop from microsoft since 2007.

As this person has mental health problems it makes it hard for me to get a full reasoning from them on what has happened I had closed Malawarebytes as I needed to go out earlier but have just run hijackthis and have placed that report below. I hope you can help or someone can. although I am losing hope.
