An absolute nightmare!!

Hi there everybody,
I have been watching the forums for the past couple of weeks and now realise that the situation that myself and my partner are in (mounting debt) is not isolated.
I have started on a DMP, very happy with what has been arranged so far. However, I took the advice to open another bank account, so that Barclays could not gain access to any further funds ( I believe they can offset it against any money owing), and contacted my payroll department to give them the new details.
Much to my horror ( i get paid this Friday) I was advised today by payroll, they havent changed the bank account details over, and it will go into Barclay as usual.
I have spoken to the DMC who advise that the Bank may attempt to take all the money off me. the bank are in the process of freezing the account. there was a £1550 overdraft exhausted on the account. Can the bank take all the money off me without notice or is it assumed that as i am entering into a DMP that i should be already aware of what creditors actions may be.
The situation now exists where i have to go grovelling to my employers tomorrow morning, explain the situation, get the bacs transfer stopped, but will be charged £25 for the privilege. I have been advised that they could issue a cheque, but remain unsure as to whether they will have time to stop the transfer.
I may effectively lose an entire wage if the bank gets their hands on it and who knows how i am going to pay the rent on Friday.
The idea of a DMP was daunting to say the least, but my partner has successfuly completed one in the past. Therefore, i had all the reassurance needed. However, sometimes i really wonder why i botherered, although i know it is for the better. I do ry to act responsibly, but have just become a victim of circumstances.
These creditors, including the bank, are so impersonal it is unbelievable. On the other habd when they are trying to entice you to borrow, extend credit, they put themselves over as really nice people. Oh what an idiot i have been at times.
I am soory that I may appear to be waffling on, but I thought it may help me if I was able to share what I am going through.
Any advice would be appreciated especially any dealings with banks holding onto wages.
thanks

when did you notify the payroll dept? if you gave then plenty of notice I cant see why YOU should have to pay the £25.
Whether you get paid by cash or cheque or what ever make sure payroll dont pay into the Barclays account if at all possibleI THINK is a whole sentence, not a replacement for I KnowSupermarket Rebel No 19:T0 -
I advised them on the 17th Novemer, they sent a mandate out. Filled in straight away. It had to be with them no later than the following Tuesday by 12pm. It would have got there on the Monday 20th November. Plenty of notice, no excuses as far as i am concerned0

I agree with other poster. If you advised your employer of the new account details before the close of play for this months salary - why should you have to pay the fee for cancellation of the BACS payment. Stress to your employer that your previous account is no longer active and that they must ensure that the payment is either paid into your new account or made by cheque. If your salary is due in on Friday there should be plenty of time to stop the BACS payment and set up a new one.0

Thanks for that. I spoke to them this afternoon. Very loathe to go into too much detail. They advised that only exceptional circumstances would warrant such a course of action. I will have to have a face to face with them tomorrow. A little embarassing as my business is nobodies business, but in this case i have little choice.
I hope things start to improve, sometimes I wonder!0 -
Really sorry to hear things have got so difficult. I agree that your company's payroll dept should be the ones to pay the charge, not you - you did everything that was asked of you. It can't be all that unusual for employees to change accounts. Is there any help you can get at work? I suspect not, you sound rather alone there. Is it possible to explain that thre's a problem with Barclays rather than having to explain the whole situation?
I'm sorry, I'm no use whatsoever, just wanted to reassure you you're not alone. Can you contact your landlord in advance and warn them that work has cocked up and the rent might be late? Unfortunately in the overall scheme of things the £25 is probably worth paying rather than getting into rent arrears, but how galling.
Let us know how it goes.If you can't be a good example, be a dire warning

Hi
thanks for your response. I have got myself into a situation where i panic over the slightest thing, and this news this afternoon did not help at all.
Barclays have really done me proud this time, despite putting alot of custom their way, during the past 20 years!!!!!!
I am going to speak to payroll first thing in the morning. If they were in a position to issue a cheque to day, i would hope that they can do it tomorrow. It is an absolute flaming nuisance this carry on. Oh for 2007, happy new year and all that LOL0 -
Thanks for your encouragement yesterday,
I have finally resolved the issue of my salary being paid on Friday. It will be paid by cheque, which I am able to cash straight away. Barclays will not see sight nor sound of any money. The £25 charge was an internal matter from one department to another, just I was advised that I would have to forfeit it.
On another positive imagine my disbelef when GE money (Burtons) rang up
this evening about arrears and when i mentioned of my DMP they thanked me for my time and said good bye. LOL
Thanks0 -
At least Barclays wont get their grubby hands on it! Well done for sorting it out, even if you hd to py the £25 better than loosing it totally huh!

Phewee, huge relief you have the money - presumably this means the rent can be paid no problem?
Saying 'DMP' to a bank must be the equivalent of waving a bulb of garlic at a vampire! How satisfying to get rid of them so easily. Be nice to get rid of them once and for all though - few decades to wait for us I fear!
Good to hear things are looking upIf you can't be a good example, be a dire warning

Thanks for your response,
Yes it is good news that i was able to sort things out. The thing with GE was unbelievable. Still very early days though, but we will get there just like yourselves.
