From another large Scottish motor dealer (not AC) I was given a pre-registered car as a courtesy - I assume some pre-reg cars have tax on them for a little while after they're registered ;)

Indeed they do, but they are not commonly used as courtesy cars and that would have the exception, rather than the rule.
Either that or they sent someone to tax it whilst I contemplated setting fire to the place :rotfl: - most big dealers can tax cars themselves in-house anyway.

Only new cars, not used ones.

Fair play - I was pretty damn angry with good reason so they had to do something :D

    Oh right, fair play :T
  • thanks for all the replys, i got a call this morning just after 9am with a manager apologising for everything, the rust is been sanded and painted tomorrow :)
I got fed up of getting no where and emailed AC via their website. Seems to work well if anyone else is in this avoidable occurence. My issue was my eyes where glazed over :D
in repsonce to the previous memeber asking for the car details, it was a 2005 Ford Feista ST.
Again thanks for all the replys.

Rust on a 6 year old car? Sure it hasn't had a knock and been repaired badly?

Hope they sort it for you though, Arnold Clark are pretty bad for customer service (I wouldn't use them for a used car although I have just bought a new car from them which will be taken to another franchised dealer if anything goes wrong)

I have been at arnold clark today looking to buy a car.

If i find one i like should i just leave a deposit and not pay the rest until the car is ready to pick up in a condition i'm happy with? the one i looked at has a small 1p dent in the bonnet which they said they would repair before i bought it.
    wouldn't it be nice if i won : car/cash/family holiday :)

    :j I am a winner! :j

Thank You to all who post and who make this a great site!

One hundred per cent yes. Never pay for a car until you have inspected it prior to driving it away.

A small dent, such as this, is normally easy to get repaired by a good smart repairer. However, it very much depends on where on the bonnet it is.

When you pick it up, make sure you squint at it in daylight from a few angles. Its difficult to wash a repair into the rest of the panel/side and I've yet to see an AC repair that didn't stick out a mile.

Im 100% sure it was, i never noticed it until my friend showed me it, it was VERY small on the outside of the car, however if u looked under the arch im surpised it was in one peice :D but it has been sent to a bodyshop.
AC customer service was good after i raised the complaint but prior it was useless :D so if u want to get anywhere with them go onto the website and complaint 2 head office not the branch itself it seems.

I have seen some excellent work done by some very skilled smart repairers
and I've yet to see an AC repair that didn't stick out a mile.

I don't think Arnold Clark do them themselves.

AC do minor works on site and have several bodyshops where they handle the bigger stuff. AC try to never let a penny go to the competition!
