Paint mixing question

I've had some Crown paint mixed today at my local hardware shop & it required a pale base. The colour was Whisper of Egyptian Sand. When the guy looked for the 5 litre 'pale base' in silk emulsion they didn't have any so he was instructed to use the 5 litres of white emulsion instead & I was told this would be exactly the same. After stirring the paint at home & applying it to one wall, it has come up like a pale yellow rather than a light sand colour. I know the paint charts are only a rough guide to the colour but I just wonder if the pale base paint that should have been used would have been brilliant white? When I queried this at the store, I was assured it would make no difference to the colour. Can anyone advise me about this base colour. thanks

No its not the same - the colour ratios are critical to the finished result. Take it back for a refund or a replacement.

I would have a refund, Clearly, this place is not competent to mix paint. I can't imagine Crown would be that happy to hear about this either ....No its not the same - the colour ratios are critical to the finished result. Take it back for a refund or a replacement.

these shoddy places tend to operate dirty paint mixing machines as well, so the final outcome is very hit and miss. you can gauge the competence of a paint shop by the number of poorly mixed tins that were rejected by the customer and are being sold off for £1 !0

thanks for your replies. I actually rang Crown paints this morning & they told me the store were breaching the terms of the paint mixing system & they should never use the white emulsion for the base. The paint was returned to the store this morning & they gave us a refund but did state Crown reps had told them white could be used!! When we then pointed out that Crown had said they were breaching the rules the guy said the paint would be exactly the same colour whether the correct base had been used or not. This is the second time I have used this hardware shop in our village & we've had cause to complain before so needless to say I will stay well away from their shoddy service in the future. Got the refund & will buy the paint elsewhere. thanks again0
