Dear all
I went to the hair salon today after deliberating for ages about all the grey that has grown through (I'm naturally fair/blonde) with fair skin. The grey is pretty dark, I wouldn't mind if it was pale or silvery. I've never had dark hair.
Anyway, after much deliberation and consultation with 2 of the stylists, we decided on meshes with a range of different colours, dark and lighter blonde but still with some of the grey - after all I'm 60 and don't look like Madonna!!
However, it's come out all of one colour all over - they might have well done it in one overall colour wash instead of hours with these individual meshes. It's really blonde and god, it looks awful. My hair is so thin but now you can hardly see it. I would've done as good a job by washing it with Domestos. And when the grey comes back through I'm really going to have dark roots.
Sorry to go on but I'm distraught. I've got until Sunday to do something with it, is there a product I can buy to soften the bright blonde - it needs to be more ash coloured or something. And more variety in shade. I can't possibly go back to the salon, I won't let them touch it again, ever.
Can anyone recommend a product I could use to sort it out? Sorry, I've just read the thread about someone's dad on life support machine which makes this sound so trivial, but I would really appreciate some advice.

Go to another hairdresser and ask for advice.
What did the original hd say when they had finished and what did yousay when you saw it in the salon when they had finished.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
I've heard a lot of good things about henna. I would stress that you do look into it quite closely, this website has a lot of info: https://www.hennaforhair.comDec GC; £208.79/£220

That's probably part of the problem, I don't think I was really clear about what I wanted, I don't really talk 'meshes' 'whole head' etc hairdresser-type of language - in fact I'm not really sure what I wanted so she went through a whole load of options and in the end what she seemed to be describing seemed to be ok so I said go for it. I don't really blame her, I just wanted to get rid of some of the grey and give it a lift. My fault I know. I asked her advice so shouldn't blame her
I need help with sorting it out now, something I can buy please.0 -
Personally, i wouldn't put Henna on blonde hair, especially coloured blonde hair. Think you'll probably end up orange ! I'd go back to the hairdressers and ask them to sort it out, i wouldn't risk buying something and doing it yourself, you might make it worse. I'd ask the hairdresser to put some lowlights in for you to tone it down.
My hair is 99% grey and i have it coloured blonde with caramel foils (same as meshes). Don't be embarrassed, they will have had people go back before, all hairdressers do.0 -
I haven't used this personally but it's got quite good reviews, might help strip some of the bleach out, or at least help tone it down so you can go over it with an ashy-blonde instead:

I know you weren't specific with the hairdresser about what you wanted but one of the basic points about hair colouring is that it should suit your skin tone and needs. If you were clear about the need for it to cover grey and not show roots then they haven't done what you needed. And if it doesn't suit you then the implicit contract with a hairdresser (to make your hair look good) is also broken. I'd definitly go back to the original hairdresser and say that you aren't accusing them of anything but you really aren't happy with how your hair looks and would they be willing to do something about it. IMHO a reputable hairdresser should not want someone walking around with a hairdo they hate.
I would say do not under any circumstances put henna over it - I have used henna a lot and love it but it might very well turn your hair orange....
In fact I'd say don't do anything yourself, see a hairdresser in any case or you just risk making things worse.0 -
To be honest, I'm more angry at myself than them but on the other hand I don't want them to mess about with it any more, it's already thin enough without any more yanking around. I'm so disappointed really, I have just been and given it a good wash to get all of the gunk (sorry 'product') out of it but it's just awful. I look like an old lady who has used a cheap bleach at home under the illusion she will look like Pamela Anderson, instead of just a 60 yrs young woman that I was before.
I was wondering about giving it a wash with one of those hint of a tint sachets, in a sort of ash blonde colour to mute it - that's if I dare show my face outdoors! Then maybe bit by bit let it grow out, or at least get used to it and this time go grey gracefully which is what I had planned to do. Do you think that would be a plan?
Thanks for all the advice so far.0 -
Please be careful. Once your hair has been bleached it will take up colour very strongly and you may end up with a worse result than you have now.
I'd go back to the hairdresser, explain the problem and ask them to put a suitable tint in it for you to tone down the blonde.
They really will be quite used to this. I've had to have colour toned down myself ( and from my regular hairdresser too. Sometimes results can be unpredictable!) but you really do need to know what you are doing.0 -
Best advice as before, go back and simply say, now I've lived with it for a day I do not feel happy with the colour.
But if you absolutely can't face the hairdresser again, find the best salon in your area and ask their advice.
Do NOT treat it yourself.0
