Second driver to reduce insurance cost

Hi all, question about car insurance I hope you can help with!
I'm about to buy my first car, and my insurance quotes are quite high. I want to use the advice on MSE to add a second low-risk driver, to attempt to reduce the overall risk of my premium, and hopefully reduce the total cost, than if I insured on my own.
I mentioned this to my dad, the person I'd like to add as my second driver, and he quesioned whether this was allowed. as it happens, I'm currently a second driver on his car.
To be clear, there is no attempt at fronting here - we will both be the main drivesr of our own vehicles. We live at different addresses so multicar isn't an option.
So to be absolutely specific;
Can my dad be the primary driver of Car A and the second driver of Car B
And
Can I be the primary driver of car B and the second driver of Car A
I don't think this is a problem, but I need to convince my dad!

Yes.............
Neither secondary driver actually has to drive the car either - my eldest daughter is on my insurance IN CASE she needs/wants to drive my car.0 -
If Dad needs convincing just ring a few (or get him to ring a few) insurance companies and ask the question.
I'm sure it's fine.0 -
Yes I've done this for my kids, I bring their insurance down a bit. I previously had them as named drivers on my car and that put MY insurance right up.0

Its perfectly fine to do0

Online quotes were cheaper if i added my mother who has had claims. Only tiny amount cheaper to add my
father. But my current insurer a broker for the car club came out dearer if i added another driver.
Worth asking.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

My dad's always been on my policy - my mum wasn't because I had an accident in her car and adding her actually increased the premium by a few pounds since she had to declare the claim too.
Couple of years on and adding her puts the premium down considerably.......0 -
All you're saying is that you want your father to be able to drive your car if the need arises. That might be his car is broken, or you are away from home in your car.... something happens and he has to drive the car back home for you.
There's no minimum mileage for named drivers. It may come to pass that the named driver never had to drive the car, that's fine, but they were insured to do so if they had needed to.0
