Whilst I sympathise with your plight, this is a risk you take when you arrange cover yourself and don't check it is suitable to cover all your possessions.
Looking at what help we could possibly provide, can you confirm
What the sum insured for your contents is?
What the high risk limit is?
How much was the claim for high risk items?
They can apply average to a claim where there is underinsurance, but they need to do it fairly.
Probably £20k for High risk Items and £40k for household goods.
As he says £20k of jewellery is stolen, it seems certain there's a significant degree of underinsurance as High risk should include all jewellery, TVs, audio visual, etc etc.0 -

Actually, ignore me, wasn't quite switched on! That works out correctly then... 50% underinsured, regardless of limits, the loss has been reduced by 50%. I'm not really sure how you can blame esure for underinsuring your contents?0
