    Most universities say 15-16 hours a week during term time, and if the student is being paid through a university job shop then they may not pay for any hours above that. It's possible to work more hours (i.e. not illegal) but as others have said it may impact studies.

    The only legal restrictions are on international students, studying on a student visa - the conditions of their visa limits them for 20 hours per week (although undergraduates can usually work full time during holidays). If they are found to be working more, they may be removed from the country - even for minor infringements.
