If the line is live, plug a telephone in and dial your mobile, the number should come up on you mobile. HTH.Better to remain a silent fool than speak and remove all doubt.0 -

Plug a phone in and dial 147017070 and if the line is still connected to the exchange it will say the number out loud for you.43580

do you mean an extension phone socket, that is not working, in bedroom?
Could just be a bad connection.0 -

Its not a extension as its the only one and its not our virgin line and not a extension for the virgin line.
We want to get it working as calls with virgin are too dear.0 -
If there's no dial tone, you have no chance of finding out what the number used to be.
However, the previous provider will (obviously) know - but you have very little chance of finding out who that was either unless it's BT (who will probably connect f.o.c.)Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

Have you considered routing your calls over 18185 from your VM line?

If your on Virgin Cable there still not as cheap as calls via 18185 proper
see http://www.18185.co.uk/mobilerates.php
but they are a lot cheaper then Virgin.:D0
