help can tesco do this

I know this isn't a grab it but I know you will know the answer.
I was at the clearance section of section and got a double bedding set. There was no price on it, so I took it to customer service it scanned at 75p but they refused to sell it. I then spook to a team leader who went straight over to sort it out only for her to say it was a discontinued item and I couldnt have it!! I say how can it be discontinued it scanned at a price. I even went on to say to her that if I had gone to the self service I would of got it at that price she still refused to sell me it !

  • Yes, they don't have to sell you anything if they don't want to.

yes, i'm afraid they can refuse to sell you a discontinued item - it would be a completely different story if you had already bought and paid for it - but before sale, yes, they can take it off sale.

I understood that if they refuse to sell you an item then they must remove all identifcal items too? I was told this by an ex-retail store manager so I like to think it's correct. I believe there is a minimum period they must remove stock for too. Hmmmm. Anybody know if that is true?

You should have gone back and seen if there was another one and like you say just put that through the self service!!!! I had this before with a tshirt for my son it had no label only a reduced ticket down to 10p and yet when i went to pay for it they refused to sell it ggrrrrrr, very frustrating.

Dont bother writing to H/O. I had this problem over a double priced item, had 2 tickets on shelf edging for same item. As i asked how much it was i was told the higher (correct) price. A debate ensued (am a former retail manager) but was correctly told as i had not purchased the item i had no rights. I took photographs of the item, shelf edging etc and forwarded on to H/O thinking i would at least get an apology and got short shrift and quoted legal rights etc.

Now, i dont ask, i purchase and then argue with customer service desk.
  • back off people , some of you are so rude sometimes.

i would write a email , what you got to loose ? and you might even end up with a sorry and voucher.

hth and ignore the boneheads on here , everywhere you go you find a few :)
