in Credit cards
ive recently got an MBNA card on the 12month for BT's 0% offer. Ive been given 4k credit limit and was wondering about raising it.
Should i ask them if they can raise it straight away? or should i wait? or indeed, do you think they'll raise it! Ive not got a bad credit history etc...
Cheers Ears :-)

I would ask them straight away if they'll raise it.
Say you've got some other balances you were hoping to transfer. They can only
- say no
- ask for more infor, or
- say yes!
Good luck0 -
As I've said in another thread, I feel that MBNA make it too easy to get into debt, even with the 0% offers.
By all means ask them to raise it, but as the account has just been opened I'd have thought it unlikely they'd raise it immediately.
I know that recently there has been a lot of decent 0% offers, something just tells me that in the future they will be few and far between as they don't do the card companies any favours in terms of profits.
There will always be some, but nothing as good as what we've just had (Barclaycard and Sainsbury's Bank in July).0 -
You could also suggest that you would like them to match a limit on another card - just be sure that you do have a limit you want matched as they might want proof.0

£32,000 limit on my MBNA Thomas Cook card - never spent that much though!!
Highest was around £20,000 to buy Mrs Vansboys car!
This limit only built up by getting rid of other, unused, MBNA cards & adding the credit limits together, on just the one.
My other posts, regarding Goldfish & Capital One, make me appreciate just how efficientMBNA have been!!
Pity the non-branded Platinum Plus, doesn't earn rewards, of some kind!

I don't know about MBNA but my last 0% card offered me a limit of £5k, when I said I wanted to transfer a £8.5k balance they increased it to £10k immediately without question.0

Caution folks - at Rpoints, we're hearing that MBNA have taken to reducing credit limits when increases have been requested. Apparently they are carrying out credit checks when these requests are made and if they think you've got too much debt (or perhaps too much available credit), down goes your limit. One chap has had his limit reduced from £11k to £2k.
Very dangerous for baggers with lots of CC money up in the air - perhaps best to be happy with what you've got.0 -
What MBNA does today ......................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

I got stung by this one. I had two MBNA branded cards.
One zero balance with 5.5k limit and one with a 4K limit carrying a balance at 1.9% . I applied for another MBNA card. This was turned down and they also reduced the 5.5K limit to £500 because they thoght I had too much credit.
They seemed quite surprised when I cancelled the £500 limit card but could not offer anything to keep my custom.Charles J0 -
From their own point of view, but not ours perhaps, they should do that more often................................I have put my clock back....... Kcolc ym0

While talking to MBNA I got the impression that they do not like you to owe more than your annual salary. I will try them again in a few months when my current batch of 0% deals have been paid off and my credit file has been updated.Charles J0
