Online Order Error

Hi All,

Just wanted some advice on this. I made an order with Argos online. They had a deal where if you spend £400 on furniture you would get £100 off. So we bought a single mattress, a double mattress and a double bed with mattress (as we were moving home). This came to about £380 so we needed to make it up to get the discount. We found some shelves at £12 each and ordered two sets.

I went to order and added the discount and all went well. It asked me to confirm and the total with P&P was just over £300. I had a call the next day to arrange delivery and that was that. I never received my order confirmation email or any documentation about the order (Argos have said in email that this was an error with their system so nothing to do with me).

However I noticed that they had taken a different amount from my account than previously agreed. I did not think to much as it was just under £300 and thought perhaps they had given free delivery or something.

But when the items arrived the delivery was in two parts. I got all the beds, but then I only received one set of shelves. This is no use as we bought the two as a matching set.

After much questioning it now seems that the following happened;

1 - There was an error on their system which meant I had no order confirmation.
2 - They only had 1 set of shelves left but never informed me.
3 - Because there were no shelves I only got part of the discount (again never informed).

I want to know what I can do. As I see it they have done three things wrong;

1 - Did not fulfil the order as agreed upon.
2 - Took an amount out of my account which I did not agree on.
3 - the delivery was incomplete because I took a day of work and never got all the items I ordered and agreed upon.

I don’t know if this is correct or not but it seems to me as if they have failed if not broken their agreement and the law on several accounts. Just want your ideas on this please.

    Not sure on this but you ordered £404 of furniture less £100 discount so should have paid £304.

    You received order less one item @ £12.00 and were charged how much?

    If you had ordered the beds/matresses and one set of shelves then you would have paid £392.00. No discount as under £400.00 minimum order value.

    You say they have charged you just under £300.00.

    Take the set of shelves back for a refund and buy some shelves elsewhere.
