Credit card rejected

in Credit cards
Hi there.
Just need a bit of advice really. I have two defaults on my credit history which are due to come off this summer (due to not paying credit card bill and overdraft in my early twenties).
I am now older and wiser and save up, but my credit is (rightly so) shot to bits. I have been rejected a vanquis credit card. This card is aimed at those with a bad credit history and is just under 40% apr!!!
I only applied for this to get my credit rating up.
I have no idea what I can do to get my credit rating up. I have a basic account with Halifax. In the next year or so my partner & I want to apply for a mortgage- I'll have no chance.
Any advice please?

Rejected by Vanquis? Christ.
Have you checked your credit report? Is there anything wrong on it that can be fixed? Name, address, electoral roll, other people's credit agreements?0 -

Agree, especially as the defaults are nearly 6 years old, by default, do you mean late payments or CCJ's though?Opinions are like bottoms - We all have one, just some stink more than others
