I'm currently stuck in a credit whirlwind - I can't get any credit to help repair my bad credit rating without having a credit history.
My Dad and I share the same name and his debts have followed me. I moved into my own house a year ago and he has since moved also, however, all of the debts that were chasing him are now latching on to me. This is affecting me and my credit file now with regards to applying for credit cards, overdrafts and even mobile phone contracts.
Problem is, I don't know what to do about it. I get letters, calls and now texts from various credit companies chasing numerous debts all belonging to my Dad. I have spoken to him about it and he dismissed them, suggesting I just throw the letters out. He's burying his head in the sand and expects me to as well.
I don't want to 'give my Dad up' and direct these people to him by giving them his contact details, but at the same time it's not really fair and will continue to affect me in the future if nothing's done about it.
Another option is to answer each company and prove that I am not the person responsible, however this may be a futile exercise and fear I'd only be wasting my time as they come under so many different names and guises.
I would appreciate any help or advice with this please, thank you.

I would probably post this on the debt free wannabe board if you haven't already. There are loads of very skilled people and lots of support there and I expect you will get quicker/better response to your questions
