As no one in Comet can help. Can someone who has bought one of therse laptops tell me:
Whether it has a built in network card as it says :
Wired networking Not featured
Gigabit LAN Not featured
which suggests that it doesn't have one. The response from Comet was that its spec is correct but this seems odd to me as most laptops these days have a network card built in.
Does it also have :
Integrated 5 -in-1 card reader
Integrated Webcam
(most specs I've seen say its does have these but Comet says it doesn't)
Thanks

It's probably got a network card, but not Gigabit - that's the higher speed one.0

That's how Comet replied! You don' work there do you?I can read their spec but I wanted confirmation from them - sometimes these things are not filled in completly or correctly.
Tallymanjohn, would it matter if the network card isn't Gigabit - if it has one?

According to Acer here --> http://www.acer.co.uk/acereuro/page4.do?sp=page3&dau22.oid=19096&UserCtxParam=0&GroupCtxParam=0&dctx1=17&CountryISOCtxParam=UK&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&ctx3=-1&ctx4=United+Kingdom&crc=2679913517 it has a webcam (what they call Orbicam), 5-in-1 card reader and Ethernet port (on Technical Specs page, which presumably applies to all 5100 series machines).0

I remember reading somewhere (I forget now) that Comet's version of this latop doesn't have the webcam. Their website's spec metions this as well ie not featured. I was just wondering whether their version have also done away with the card reader and network card as well - which is how they can sell it at a lower price than other places - or if they have actually got their spec sheet wrong.

Only kidding you, Zahc
I managed to go into one of their stores to have a look. The chap confirmed it doesn't have the card reader and the housing for the web cam looked like it was covered up so probably no web cam either. He also said it doesn't have bluetooth even though the online spec says it does . I saw what looked like an RJ-45 port and the salesman says it has an in built ethernet card but again this is inconsistant with the online spec which says the laptop doesn't have wired networking support
Would like to hear from anyone who have bought a Comet spec 5102 to confirm that they can hook the laptop to a router or ADSL modem.

Well got an acer aspire 5601 at tesco a few mths ago, 15.4 widescreen, 80gb hard drive, card reader, bluetooth, orbitcam, 2 usb, ethernet port, wireless card 3 years warranty all for £599 plus I bought a laptop backpack for only £14 that acer are charging double for. You can buy from acer direct anyway, and I would bet it would beat the comet deal.

Could you ask to see a boxed one, or the box for the display one? The box may have a list of the specs on it - if they are printed on the box you would hope that they would be on the machine!

if its this hard to determine what spec it actually is I wouldnt buy it. it sounds like my phone. which is an orange spv c500. some identical phones branded differently have wireless but orange ones don't. they had it removed.
maybe comet had the lan removed to make it cheaper. or maybe you have to buy an add-on card and fit it in a secret compartment like we had to do with a recent dell purchase at work which didnt have wireless as standard and they neglected to mention it.0
