As someone who just passed the test, insurers see you as high risk. One way is to prove yourself by passing an Advance Motorists Test by the IAM (Institue of Advanced Motorists) or the RoSPA ADA (Adavanced Drivers Association).marishabickersteth wrote: »how can i get around this ridiculous insurance "scam" paying nearly 7X my cars value for car insurance is really crippling me... most insurers wont even give me a quote!! i am 27 with 3 dependants, how on earth short of giving up my car can i get around this??
HELP!!!!!
Costs are low, cos training is given by their volunteer members, who have become 'observers'. You pay for the test but that is not much.
Google for their websites and find out your local group.0 -

Unfortunately this only reduced my quote by, wait for it.... £30 a year with no claims and I am over 25, yipee(!)
At the end of the day anything that counts towards having your premium reduced will be done at a minimum level by insurers.
Anything, even a no fault claim, that causes your premium to rise will be done at the maximum level. If freedom is outlawed, only outlaws will have freedom.0 -
i did the IAM advanced driving test several years ago, shortly after i bought my first car in an effort to bring down the insurance cost. whilst i'd totally recommend doing the course from a developing skills and improving your driving perspective - it really is excellent, it made virtually no difference to my insurance quotes.0

If you are struggling to get your children to school and they live over 3 miles away from the school, the government has some funds in place to take them to school. special needs children automatically fall into the free transport, best if you ask your teacher or neighbourhood office.
As for insurance you might be better of pooling with someone for a taxi run, £160 a month is £8 a day ( assuming a 4 week month mon-fri, you will save petrol)
if your friends on the road goto the same school, you can see if they wont mind paying a share of the taxi fair (fixed per seat).
shopping can be done easily by booking online, I used to walk around the shop and write a list, but nowadays you can download the tesco app and walk around tesco, then make the order when you come home, and it will be delivered for £3-6.
easy solutions once you know how.
Hope this helps0 -

Have you tried reducing your mileage if you only use your car so infrequently? My partner only really uses his for his 8 mile round trip commute so reduced his mileage to 4000 per year and it made a big difference.
Also although your car only has a little engine it's still not in a mega low insurance group- I found this website http://www.parkers.co.uk/insurance/#ig=0 that shows your group by group which cars are cheaper (with class 1 being the cheapeast).0 -
Use comparison sites to find cheapest price
get a quote form ins coswho arent on comp sites eg avira, direct line,
try and increase your excess a little to see if the price comes down0 -
If you only use the car for the school run have you tried getting quotes from a local mini cab office? You might well be able to organise a special rate that costs less than £100 per month (or else any friendly neighbours)0

So if you put the address of your mum you get £845 a year ? I think if you live close by you should consider that I know it's wrong but you don't live far and i'm in no position to say something in this case, let's say if someone else can give you a better advice.
The reason seems to be your area. I don't know if you answered it properly, but did you put your name under mum insurance?how much was it?
Try another thing, if you are a good driver put the voluntary excess to £1000 and that will reduce it alot.yes your right you can use noclain only on one car, but you can round it.
if you mum is already using all the claims and if you got some NCB then what you got to do is put your self as a policy holder and add a driver which will be your mum and make her the main driver; in this way your NCB will be used and she will be the main driver which will reduce the price alot if she had the licese for a longer period.
Please ignore everything this user has said, in the event of a claim, your insurance company will find out. The policy will then be void from start date. They will most likely claim their outlay from you, then you may even be prosecuted for fraud, which could prevent you getting any kind of insurance in the future. (I work in insurance and have seen this happen many times).
Any one who states 'I know its wrong but....' is generally best ignoring especially when it comes to something as important as insurance.0
