Hi, just wondered whether people think that accidental damage cover on buildings is worth having? Any opinions?

I've never had it, it always seemed hard to accidently damage a building.
Probably it's useful if you're a keen diy'er that drills through water pipes though, or falls through the loft floor, (Frank Spencer probably would have had it)0 -
Have you added it to your quote to see how much difference it makes. I have found it only ever adds between £10-£15 to the annual premium. For that much I would say it is worthwhile considering especially if you do any kind of DIY.
We managed to get our insurance to pay out under accidental damage to glass when the old guttering fell off and went through the conservatory roof in bad weather. They wouldn't accept a buildings claim for storm damage as they said it was maintenance but paid out under accidental damage. Saved me £1950.0 -
Madmish you give a good example of the extra hidden claims that accidental damage cover for buildings can cover. Another example would be water getting in through a roof (Especially likely with a flat roof) that is not caused by a storm. It tends to damage the ceiling and often the decorations) This would be covered by most policies with a/d on the buildings although Halifax policies including St Andrews will exclude it even under a/d.
The cost for a/d on buildings is relatively low, typically between £5 and £20 for the average person.0
