laying a base for a wooden playhouse

We have just bought a 7ft x5ft wooden playhouse for our daughter, and i need some advice on how to lay a base for it
it will be going in the garden, so i've bought 12 2ft x2ft x 5omm paving slabs so that i can cover an area 8ft x 6ft,
how deep do i need to dig out, and whats the best way to ensure the surface is level, someone mentioned levelling sand, should i use this? if so how much?
when the slabs are in place should they be slightly above ground level or not,
thanks

You don't really need to dig out, just level it out.
Depending on the surface, it could be as simple as just raking the ground to find a level, or you may need to dig down a few inches just to find a level and give you some room to level things up.
Once you get somewhere near (I'd recommend some long straight planks of wood that you could put a suitably sized spirit level on), you're ready to start putting your flags down. Sprinkle the ground with water - not loads just a covering. Bed the flags on a dry mix of sand & cement (1 part cement to 4 parts river sand) and level them up. Once they're all down, sprinkle some more dry mix down the cracks and then give it all a slight sprinkle with water to.
Leave it a few days to firm up, and you're good to go.0
