I had the idea of using black cabs for my wedding car, but a plain red one or white (no ads on side) and get the taxi firm to put some white ribbon on front. My theme is red and white...

Was thinking of 1 for bridesmaids and my mum and 1 for me and dad

Cant afford £200+ on wedding cars and fancy having something different as a novelty

Has anyone done this idea/seen this idea before?

We are using a chauffeur (sp?) car which works out cheaper - £72 for up to 3 hours. Before we found this we were going to use taxis :) I think its a good idea, what i would suggest is getting a couple of the drivers details and ask if they would be willing to put ribbon on the front of the car and set a fee for it. This seems the best option as you know your driver isn't weird and the ribbons will give it more of a wedding feel.

Should also mention that if you are doing it by journey you may not get the same cars and will have to pay them to wait, hence setting a fee in advance :D

Black taxi as wedding car.....heres a link to another bride from this site who used a company called idotaxi.co.uk...

I think shes removed the photos she had on the thread but the link to her car is somewhere near the bottom of her first initial post.....it worked really well for her and she really recommended it

I think they have several colours to choose from and its certainly not an unusual request

I thought of having this - there was a bright yellow taxi and a pink taxi I wanted, or even just a silver 'black cab'
The other half did not like the idea, he said it seemed 'too ordinary', so we are not doing it, but I still think it is a nice idea and I would go for it. The black cab style taxis are also very roomy inside, you can get quite a few people in, and a big dress won't be a problem.

I had a look at idotaxi but they wanted like £200 so it was well out of our budget.

We're now (hopefully) using my best friends OH's black cab instead. He's just got to see if he can use it that day.

  • Hi
I'm getting married in October in a city centre church with the reception venue literally across the street. I'm staying in a hotel a few minutes away so will only need transport for about ten minutes - everything we looked at was quoting 4 hour minimum hire and about £200. I begrudged paying so much for so little when there was so much more I could have used the money for so I'm getting a wedding taxi - colour of my choice, ribbons etc, for £100. Sorted!
  • I am a London taxi driver and we got married in London last year and were looking for something different. We hired a white taxi from whiteweddingtaxis.co.uk and would recommend them. The cab was brand new and the driver very helpful.

I really, really wanted to do this but everyone seems to think it's a stupid idea :-(

My fiance's parents offered to give us more money to have a 'proper' wedding car ... not that money was actually even the issue. It's what I wanted! Hey-ho

I love this idea, would do it myself except our wedding is MILES from any city. I like the old fashioned black cabs, the silhouette is nicer and I like chrome fittings. :)
