Nail clipping

You should never need to clip their nails.
Walking will naturally file them down if you walk them part of their walk on the concrete path.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

My youngest Great Dane has the longest and fastest growing nails EVER.
She walks plenty, on varying floor surfaces, every day, she also has running on the garden/patio/varying floor surfaces every day and I still have to do her nails approx 6 times yearly.
Luckily she has never had an issue with it, having lifted and played with her feet since she was 8 weeks old she has no qualms with anything being touched.
If your pup really won't let you do it then the nurse at the vets might be the way to go, best that way than an overgrown or broken nail.
Good luck!2 angels in heaven :A0 -
We had a very heavy coated collie come in once, with her front dew claws grown right round and back into her leg - they were a nightmare to do (had to cut them 'in half' and pull the bits out of her leg) but she was such a brave girl.
One of mine has black nails, and i don't like doing them very much - when we lived in town they never needed done cos of road/pavement walks - now she's older the 'pink bit' is longer, so I have to be very canny - she'd never forgive me if I made her bleed her own blood!
Have heard of people using a Dremel thingy too, but don't think mine would like the buzzy noise much - probably filing will be more trouble for a dog who doesn't fancy much 'foot-holding' cos it'll take longer than a quick snip with the clippers?
Have been told by some of our customers that the local vets don't like doing black nails either, and they tend to send them to our groomer to do :rotfl:0
