I posted my signed proposals for my IVA last Friday and am just waiting for a date, hopefully soon!

I cancelled all my DD in Feb, made payments via debit card and except for several phone calls from Egg, I haven't had anyone complain so far! Last week after changing my bank account I cancelled the DD's to Lloyds who are my main creditors and who I have a loan with, and haven't had a letter yet to say the loan hasn't been paid yet.

As each day passes with no letters or phonecalls I feel a bit better, am I lulling myself into a false sense of security and will the calls, letters etc start soon.

My main creditor is Lloyds, I also owe to Egg, AA and Asda.

Does anyone know if the calls etc are likely to start or will I be ok?

Thanks

    Hi joesaunt.
I think I was one of the few lucky ones who, in the end after all the worrying actually never got many phone calls at all!! Lloyds were my main creditor, we also had Egg. I only ever had one letter from Lloyds to inform me I had gone over my agreed overdraft and that was it! :) Egg were a bit more of a pain in the bum but once I had sent my proposal back to my IP everything just suddenly stopped! We did have it quite easy I think.
Now that you have sent your proposal back it won't be long til you get the date for your meeting. I think they give creditors about 17 days. So, you could be looking week after next for your meeting possibly!

Like Judo, I got off lightly. Egg said nothing, MBNA phoned a few times (from Mumbai ... lovely young lady) and the AA phoned to wish me luck and see if they could offer any advice (I still feel guilty about AA -- they were great all the time I was with them ... if it wasn't for MBNA .. but that's another story).

    Thanks

I have made a token payments so they are recieving something, although nowhere near the minimum amount. I can't pay the Lloyds loan, but as I have only just cancelled the DD I am hoping they will recieve notification from Payplan before long and hopefully it will be ok.

The phonecalls I had from Egg were to complain I had cancelled the DD and they couldn't produce the statement, well they managed to this month :) without it being set back up again.

Hopefully Payplan will move fairly quick and it will be painless.

  • hi, i wouldn't pay ANY token payments, you'll hopefully be in the IVA for years, save, save, save every spare penny for a emergency fund! our biggest creditor was Lloyds, they hounded us,it was v stressful, also had egg, they rang my hubby a lot.

not long 'til your meeting now though so hang on in there.
  • Hi Joesaunt,

I dont believe that your creditors are allowed to call you after you IVA has been accepted. Im not too sure about before it has been accepted, i haven't had any as my IP's have contacted them and told them its being dealt with i think.....

Maybe something to ask your IP's?

John, sometimes the odd phone call will happen after the IVA acceptance --- the call centres rarely know what's going on!! But it's good to be able to (politely) be able to tell them where to go. Not that I would, of course :0)
  • the calls have stpped but we are still getting the odd letter. plan to ring our firm this week .

Just to give you all an update.

I still haven't had any letters re missed payments, I have only made a token payment at the beginning of April, so hopefully I may have not got through the systems yet!! I have had a letter from EGG to say they are aware of the impending IVA and have frozen my account, I am glad they have written, I wish the others would too.

My date for the creditors meeting is Weds 27th at 11.40 :T

Scared and excited all at the same time!

I have worked out my cheapest options of shopping with my "allowance" and feel happier, I was a bit panicky to start with as I thought we would starve, but know as long as we are careful, we will be ok.

My son is doing well with his new job and is paying me his little bit each month, this is in cash and this is what I do the majority of the shopping with, so far things are working out ok. I know there are going to be hard times ahead, but as long as the outcome of the meeting is a YES, we will be fine.

Thanks to everyone who posts on this board, you are really boosting my morale at the minute. I will update you all next week with the outcome of the meeting.

  • Hi, just a quick message to say well done. the mixed emotions you're feeling are all normal! it's difficult waiting but time soon passes & your date will be here.

i was terrified of not having enough cash at the till,i'd panic & ask hubby,"should we put x,y,z back???" we didn't &we've been ok each time. it makes you question "will we eat it?", we hardly throw any wasted food away now.

well done for facing the problem&getting help to sort it out,hug x

    Hi,
we were approved 22rd December 2010 and just reading your thread made all those worry feelings come back!!
We didnt hear anything from anyone when we stopped making payments until about a week before the creditors meeting and then we were bombarded, but we just informed them we were going into an IVA (hopefully) gave them the name of the company and our reference numbers and explained they would be contacted in due course.
Of course they already knew all of this since they had received letters explaining the situation and had to vote but it didnt stop them trying to pressure us.
However, we literally didnt hear from anyone again except for 2 companies out of 16 1 was barclaycard and the other was studio cards. Barclaycard were given their 30 day notice to cease harrassment but studio have been bugging us for 5 months and we have only just resolved that issue.
After being approved the stress levels reduced dramatically and although everyday can feel like a struggle whilst we still get used to living without credit i honestly believe we did the best thing and am looking for the day its cleared.
Im sure you are feeling anxious now, but rest assured if/when you are approved a massive weight is released.
Everything is always better after a cup of tea
