Victory - not all cats WANT to go outside....
My 4 - George loves to go out so I do take him in the communal garden and let him run there for few hours then go down to call him/bring him back (I am on 1st foor).
Fred goes to the garden with me when I let George out then George stays there and Fred walks back to the flat with me.
The 2 girls (Phoebe and Fina) simply do not like to be outside. Whenever I try to take them out they scream/scratch and try to run back home.
So - not all cats do like to go out

Those who live in a flat and have no garden who have cats, how do you manage with the windows open? I know there are nets you can put up but i've forgotten what they are called.0

We opened the door last Sunday and have allowed the boys out each day for up to 20 minutes at a time.
Eddie, the older one (3), isn't bothered about going out, but will happily sit at the open door and enjoy the sunshine and the breeze.
Charlie (1) is out at soon as the door is open. So far he's only made it about 10 metres away but he's getting more adventurous by the day and comes back on command.
Awwww, that's lovely.
When mine first started going out I would call them in after a short period and give them a wee treat - I can now call them back even after they've ventured out for longer periods and they will turn up within a few minutes.
In fact, thinking about it, they both have a better recall than the dog does sometimes!

I have a garden, 2 cats and a catflap. However, one of my cats doesn't go out - just sleeps indoors all day, usually on the spare bed. She has a litter tray inside.
She's never been one for the outside and has always seemed happy being indoors even on a beautiful day like today with the patio door open - she does sit at the patio door from time to time just looking out. My other cat loves being outside and snoozes in a nice shady spot in the garden all day. She never goes in the front garden just seems happy being in the back garden. They are both 9 years old and have been like this since I've had them.Debt 30k in 2008.:o Cleared all my debt in 2013 and loving being debt free

I have got those thingys to stop windows openig too wide on all of them.
When I want to fully upen a window in a room - cats are evacuated from such room, windows wide open but the door shut - and I rotate the rooms this way....
I had one jump out of the window once, it is only low first floor and grass undear the window so nothing happened but it was not me who left the window open... now anyone coming in is told the window rules at the door LOL0
