I wouldn't.
I don't have good listening skills for verbal instructions. After "hello" if it's not written down I'm just smiling and nodding and saying "yes"... but nothing's going in.
I was just trying to make the point that not all advisors are crap-some of us do try to actually advise the customer-if they do not understand, then they only have to say; but my point is don't just blanket blame the advisor for crapness-the customer should take some of the responsibility if it has been explained to them, after all when you have to be shown how to do a new job, it's no good just smiling and nodding, if you don't understand the instructions? It is all written down anyway, (in the jobseeker's agreement) I just like to try and make sure they do understand what is required and the consequences of not complying.0 -
I had an advisor express shock when I produced a list of codes at my first signing on session. "Where did you find them?" so I don't think a lot advisors are informing people about codes (and where to find ones not on your agreement, some of us are more flexible than some advisors think) and if you know about them before they probably think you are a mystery shopper.
Code or not the Jobseekers directgov website is shockingly bad; I go there to get an idea of what my adviser will suggest for me but if jobseekers are to be more successful in getting work from that website it needs to be so much better.0 -
I knew there were specific codes for things, but didn't know how to get a complete list like this. You have collated absolutely everything! Really helpful. Thanks. Yes, the JC are very bad at making jobsearching the much more easier process it could be...e.g u enter in a specific area it asks for, it comes back with say 100 matches..but only first 5 are in ur area! But thanks for this.0

the advisor i saw last week was actually quite helpful0 -
Thanks - that is VERY useful.
I was never told about those codes, the search facility on their website is total crap so the codes will be very useful0 -
just been on the directgov job search site and they now are actively promoting the SOC codes. Could this be just a coincidence?0

Thanks O.P. This was something I didn't know about. Been unemployed for nearly a year and no-one has ever mentioned this. Am Lucky I have a job starting next week but I will print this out in case I ever need it again in the future.0
