Directgov JSA Job Search Tip

I'm not sure if anyone else has figured this out, but I thought I'd share it as its not really promoted by the JC or on the Directgov website

On your Jobseekers agreement (JSA Claimants should have one of these in your plastic wallet) find the little white box next to "The types of job I am looking for"

Type the 4 digit code next to one of your three job types, in the "Job title or vacancy reference:" box, on the directgov job search. (These are the codes that the jobcentre use on their systems)

This will then filter out all the relevant job types you are looking for.

For example;

if you're looking for Customer Service jobs, type 7212
Retail - 7111
Retail Managment - 1163

Not sure if it would be beneficial to compile a list of codes, but it might help

    Very useful
    Compo challange:Amount won £0 Need to win £240
  • Thank you for the list! :)

    I had known about the code/s (as the JC kept re-iterating lol). I also did explain to them that I think their website is shocking and so non user-friendly as 'total jobs for (city) for today' list was never the full and correct list. Rant over ;)

    Any Personal Adviser worth their salt would have told you this at your New Jobseeker Interview! (Dugdale, milfield???)I always show customers on their first siging - they are called SOC-standard occupation codes. (At the same time as I remind them of the rules for claiming, minimum jobsearch 3 steps a week, attendance on time and what to do if they are unable to attend, as well as what the penalties are for not complying)-so if they end up with a Sanction it won't be me tricking them.

    I'm very rarely told anything from my jobcentre, the advisors are crap. At the back-to-work session thingy, everyone in the group was asking me about where and how to find things out as the advisor leading the session didn't have a clue. You'd think they'd hand out a list of places to go for extra support or tools to help.

    And you expect them to take that all in....?
    I wouldn't.
    I don't have good listening skills for verbal instructions. After "hello" if it's not written down I'm just smiling and nodding and saying "yes"... but nothing's going in.
