Advice Pls on Setting up School bus/coach

Not sure if this is the correct board for this but here's hoping someone can help out in cyber space.......

We live in a london borough and my son will be starting school in Surrey come autumn. At present there is one private coach service that does a run from where we live straight to the school. The only thing is they are heavily subscribed with a massive waiting list for children wanting to use their service.
I was thinking that maybe I could drive my son to school but at the same time see if anyone other child/ren can share the journey and be charged accordingly.
I'll need to change my insurance to business but apart from that does anyone know what licences, if any, I need or what it entails when setting up a transport service of this nature?
I haven't a clue on how to start up this venture and your advice would be gratefully received.

If you are talking about 'car sharing', where those sharing the car are contributing to the cost of petrol (i.e. you are not making a profit), you should not need to change your insurance.

If you are intending to make a profit, you probably need Hire and Reward Insurance, which is very expensive.

You should also investigate whether you need a CRB (Criminal Records Bureau) check, as I guess you will be solely in charge of children under 18.

Doesn't matter whether the OP is alone or not, anyone who works with kids or the mentally disabled is required to have a CRB check carried out prior to starting said work (not that a CRB check actually proves anything anyway).
Remember kids, it's the volts that jolt and the mills that kill.

What happens when your son is ill? Do you still take the others to school?

    1. If the coach company has such a big waiting list why on earth don't they just put on 2 coaches or a bigger coach?

    2. Why not just have a reciprocal arrangement with other parents so you don't have to mess around with money?
