damp patch

Hi, I bought pretty yukky house last year and had a load of work done. I have a damp patch which could have been there for years. I have painted it and damp came through, painted again, through again. it is near floor level and mouldy looking, any ideas please? It is about a foot square but I am worried it will grow!

I used Polycell One Coat Stain Stop on the stains on my ceiling caused by water...worked a treat

edit: that may not be any good for proper damp though
  • I had a few persitent damp spots in my house.Chopped out the offending areas, painted the walls with synthaprufe,re-rendered and plastered.

    That fixed 'em.

A quicker and cheaper option is to paint the wall with a "no more damp" type paint and then re-emulsion.That can work if it's not to bad.

A quick fix till you get the problem sorted out is to paint the area with oil/solvent based undercoat, leave to dry, undercoat again, then apply your emulsion, this will hold the stain back from showing through for 12-24 months.

Thanks everyone for replies. It is definitely growing vertically along the wall. When i find my camera lead I will post some pics!
