Another dirty trick

My car insurance expires in about a month.
I just received a letter from them.
As you would expect, I don't take out legal protection, but my insurer has decided to give me free legal protection until the end of my policy.
Now that's nice of them.

Until I read the t&c's, autorenew, all the usual, "and if you have legal protection, we will renew this at the current rate"

Wonder when I'll get the price for next year, and how small will the inclusion of the legal protection insurance be I wonder?

I don't wonder, but your renewal invite should be sent seventeen days prior to renewal. So not long for us all to wait until the end of this momentary tedium. :money:

    Indeed it should.
And what's the chance of it arriving on time.
House insurance renewal has arrived 10 days before, (but back dated on the letter) and the cancellation has to be made 7 days in advance.
So if I hadn't pre-empted and not renewed in writing last week, it would be a bit tight for time.
(I lost nothing, as oddly enough, when it did arrive, it was £100 dearer than my other quotes)

I will reporting them for the late offer as well.

There is now no prescribed time period, merely "in good time".

    ICOBS 6.1.5

"A firm must take reasonable steps to ensure a customer is given appropriate information about a policy in good time and in a comprehensible form so that the customer can make an informed decision about the arrangements proposed"

    Thanks for the reference.

Arriving today, with the page in the key facts about auto renewal somehow not with all the other paperwork, but folded inside one of the advertising flyers they have padded the envelope with,
and that "hidden" page informing me I have to advise them within three days otherwise they will renew, doesn't seem reasonable.

They will not be able to enforce that.

    But they'll try.

So they will try to take a direct debit, then I'll fight it, then they'll have to give it back, and I may be right, but it's hard work.

But I did send a letter last week, informing them I wouldn't be renewing.

I am about to renew my car insurance and will be paying cash to a high street broker.
Ive had enough of all this crap the net companies dish out. Yes, I will be paying a bit more but for that I get a human to sort out any problems/claims should I need it and they wont have my debit card details...........bliss.

I will recoup the extra outlay by reducing my wine/prostitute/pot noodle expenditure till I am no worse off. I feel its the right way to go.

I like my insurers. I don't know why a person would make such a fuss about car insurance, unless they just like complaining.

OP, if your insurers are such a conniving bunch (the leaflet issue in #6 is borderline paranoia by the way), then why on earth did you insure with them? If this is how they (or you) handle the renewal, how do you imagine they'd perform during a claim? You are a strange little man.
