Pests in raised bed

I am planning to grow leeks or potatoes this year in my raised bed but how I protect my tender plants from slugs and cats ? The seedlings disappeared overnight last year and I am thinking of keeping the new ones under cloches (bottles of soft drink cut in half, more like) until big enough. As to the cats, they think that the raised beds are superb toilets !

Thank you
Keep calm and carry on

There are only 2 things that really work well.

    1. A hedgehog
    2. Those blue slug pellets. The safe for pets ones DO NOT work!

Keeping cats off is pretty strightforwards - get some wooden barbecue skewers and stick them pointy end up in the beds a few inches apart. As Coporal Jones would say, "they don't like it up 'em!"

Suggested this to a friend whose mother was having terrible trouble with cats going to the loo under her bedroom window, one packet of skewer5s later and they haven't been back since ;)

Of course, you can use any sharp pointy twigs you havppen to have lying around if you prefer - holly works pretty well :)
