We are at the solictors stage at the moment, just wondering how long this process takes (yes i know, how long is a peice of string).
What happens at this stage? I'm aware the solicitor will do a search, contracts, etc ...
Sigh ....

Are you buying or selling or both?
If you are selling you will need to complete forms about what you are leaving, the property etc and these go to your buyer's solicitor who will raise queries. You should be asked to provide evidence of guarantees, warranties and paperwork for any planning permission in the last 20 years or building regs.
If you are buying you will receive forms from your buyers and your solicitor raises queries. Searches are done and once all queries are raised you should receive a summary report from your solicitor telling you about everything and making any points they need you to consider (for example about shared access or restrictive covenants).
It took us around 5 weeks to get to the summary stage with our purchase, 6 weeks on our sale but it's leasehold. We're all signed up and waiting to exchange.0 -
Unfortunately there are quite a few steps in a house purchase that require information from other people or agencies, throw in a day or two for the royal mail to deliver things back and forth and it can be a protracted process.
I dont think the actual conveyancing takes that long, but there is a lot of waiting for things from elsewhere. Of course if anything goes wrong then it is piece of string time.0 -
Sounds like you need a copy of this.
Or try google for websites explaining the process. Or go to your public library - lots of books to tell you what goes on.0 -
