Student rail travel.

It's so expensive and I was wondering what the cheapest way to get from Castle Cary to Brighton would be for Friday eve/this weekend and return Monday. its to late to book in advance I think, but could I buy separate tickets for each journey part?

I haven't got a student rail-card but will get one at the station, but it wont be a plastic one which is a shame.

any tips would be appreciated many thanks

It's not too late to book in advance though availability may be poor. Worth a look

Yeah, even without splitting there's an advance ticket for £4.40 single for the whole journey on the Friday evening (getting to Brighton around midnight).

Spend some time playing around with splitting and times on https://www.nationalrail.co.uk
