Weird Electrics

I think this is probably the right place to ask.

I recently noticed that when I have my wipers and lights on at the same time, after I cut the ignition, the wipers will carry on wiping until I turn the lights off. This isn't a big issue, but I'm sure it's not meant to happen.

Also, I don't know if this is connected, but I recently fitted a new stereo, and the radio has lots of static / interference - especially when the lights are on.

Anyone come across this before? Any easy solutions?

    How old is the car?

Some cars will carry on wiping with the ignition off so they go top the "rest" position, so that in ice they dont snap cos the dimwit who driove it last left the wipers on.

Anyway, your car could have thi feature, along with auto lights perhaps?

I can see the logic if this was a feature. If you want the lights then your probably want too see out the window as well.

That said it could be short some where.

The high amounts of static will either be a loose conction or something not quite right in the charging circuit.

Retrace your footsteps by disconnecting whatever you did when fitting the radio and see if it rectifies it. ;)

Use a voltmeter if you think you've a short.

My old Escort had lovely characteristics- lights, wipers, hazards, radio- any electric would turn on and off at random. Took hours to find one tiny section of wire causing the problem!
