powergen elec bill
trying to get a head round my elec bill
for the main detail there's 3 rows of information for present/previous reading, kwh used, cost, charge.
it seems to me each row represents a billing period. with the bottom row being the latest. what i dont understand is why there are rows detailing different costs
for instance in the latest period (month) its
used cost charge
17 17.16 2.92
66 9.48 6.26
what are these 2 costs? im not afaik on economy 7
below is a summary of my bill. it seems my monthly bill is £20.75
but that doesnt exactly add up with my monthly usage which only comes to £9.18. i know how they've arrived at 20.75 but it still doesnt make any sense.
bottom is my bill details.
170.70 is the total cost of E used for the last 3 payment periods, reduced by discount to 147.21.
127.45 is the total cost of E used the the last 2 payment periods
therefore this payment period is 147.21 - 127.45 = 19.76
what the hell is going on?

The two different rates for electric are because you have two different tiers. Your first 400 units each year are at a higher cost. This is usually refered to as a no standing charge tarif, which is cobblers as the higher cost units represent the standing charge. Its also worth pointing out that as energy prices rose the higher units tarif rose roughly in proportion, so you are now paying more standing charge on 'no standing charge' tarifs.
The reason there are only 17 higher units is because this bill is for a short period of time. 2 or 3 weeks at a guess.
So looking at your bill I'd say you put in a correct meter reading and they generated a new bill a few weeks later.
This is why the £127 was refunded. What they all do is instead of just updating the bill with the extra units (+ or -) they cancel all the previous charges and VAT, then rebill you but (commonly) only mention the new units on the bill. I'd need to see all your previous bills to be sure but it doesn't look wrong (I'm not saying it looks right, just not wrong).

thanks. i understand. i had put in a correct meter reading. that period above is 1 month. it seems a bit low but they've prob been overestimating previously
its a bit confusing anyway my bills because the last few periods on the bills are 3 month periods and also 4 months ago i was paying #90 a month to cover overpaying. what im going to do is watch my usage for a few months and then get the DD reduced cos there's no way im using £45 a month any more. for one thing im away at least 2 weekends a month now and Ive started turning my pc off while im at work.0
