Advice on courses

I'm thinking of going on a beauty course at my local college but i feel i could be too old and i have no qualifications. I would love to get into beauty as i find it very interesting. I also don't have a lot of money so i couldn't afford to pay for the course. Are there any free courses in the west yorkshire region and if so would i need qualifications to get on the course?

Any advice much appreciated :)

Karen, you are never too old to learn. You might be surprised the age range at the colleges. I think the local colleges offer these courses for free, especially if you are out of work.

Found this on Yell.com, probably have to double check if they are free first. Good luck

Best to speak to the college to see if you would get funding. Can depend on previous study, level of study and family income. Also depends if you are going part time or full time.

I would also suggest speaking to some beauty therapists as well, to see if you could get a little work experience before going on a course.

I would check if you need to buy a beauty kit to do the course, as even if you don't have to pay course fees this might be quite expensive if you do need it.

Might also be worth speakng to a few people working in the beauty industry to see how much work realistically you could expect to pick up if you did a course and gained qualifications.

    *UPDATE*

I applied to my local college to go on a part time beauty course level 2. I received a letter saying they have offered me a place, my only problem is i have to pay an enrollment fee of around £130 and i have to buy a kit for £200 which i can't afford at all.

It says on the letter enrollment day is the 16th of august i have no chance of getting that money together before that date. Is there any way i could get financial hep from the jobcentre etc?

i went straight from school to a beauty college and you'd be suprised at the age of some of the people starting the same time. they seemed to have two classes one which was for use younguns and one from the mature students so you shouldnt be stuck with teenagers.
