It sounds like the details of the new meter weren't recorded properly. So probably the meter reader has been trying to read a meter that isn't where their records say it is for the last two years. And hence they weren't reading the meter that you did have.
I see the other side of the picture, working for a supplier. You could have read the meter every few months to check that the readings were correct yes? If every reading on a bill is estimated for months at a time, I would always check it tallies up with the meter reading on the meter.
I can see where you are coming from, but mistakes do happen.
You can ask for a discount off the increased amount in return for you paying it off. They may agree or not to this. They would have to agree to spreading the extra over several months if you can't afford to pay (or say you can't afford to pay) the extra all at once.
I do see where you are coming from, but there's two sides to this. If they are unreasonable about wanting full payment within 7 days or something, you can complain to energywatch.
If it's powergen, you can collect clubcard points with this? Every little helps....Indecision is the key to flexibility0
