I like Henry's too, although Which scored them very low  My first Henry was a second hand one which lasted 15 yrs & now on 2nd which I bought 3 years ago. Amazon often prices reasonably but as there prices often fluctuate, worth checking other shops too.

It is a question of your vacuum cleaner being fit for the purpose you bought it. Nothing more. I wouldn't worry.

We have had 2 dysons in 15 years. People on here may not like dysons, they may have had bad experiences. Their response is understandable.

Our dyson does the job it was bought for, and it does it just as well today as it did on the day we bought it. It need do no more.

There is a qualification however. Manufacturers are always under pressure to make design changes to save money. In a vacuum cleaner this can be the bits you see, or the bits you can't.

It is entirely possible that the next Dyson or Henry we buy is not as good as the last therefore.

I'm quite willing to believe I have had the luck of a leprechaun Ormus :) when it comes to ours.

Having said this, sods law will dictate ours breaks down tonight!

(I have no reason to tout Dysons until they pay me commission ;) )

I don't know if you know, but Dyson offer a full service, which is very reasonable in price. It includes labour and replacement of all parts that require it. Also a full year's guarantee.

Edit : to get a price for your particular machine, go to this link and select the right one, it'll end up giving you a price for servicing of that machine.

Thanks very much, but we've already repaired it once a while back. The power connection isn't working properly now. It needs a new head (about £40-50 to replace) and new stair attachment (£20-30).

Nope. Its done. Not spending any more money on it.

Why would a vacuum cleaner want with a compressor, the idea is to remove the air not compress it.
Anyhoo, still think Miele make the best machines.

Supposedly it compresses the 'dust' into more of a block so that you don't have the stuff flying about all over the place when you empty the collection bin.

Well, decided to take a punt on a Samsung:

The reviews are very good and £67 from Dixons. Thanks for the advice.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Just got a Miele Cat and Dog cylinder it reminds me of when I was provided with a VW Golf - powerful and superior - I then used the old Dyson for comparison - no comparison the Miele was the better machine
