i wasnt having a go, just expressing an opinion.
Windows ME was the worst release to date IMO.

  • I only got Windows ME because I had received all the broadband package from AOL and then found out that I could not connect to broadband with Windows 98.

Certainly I have an ongoing problem that I know not how to fix with Windows ME, in that when I boot my computer up it comes up with an error file on the desktop giving details of a problem and asking if I wish to continue running scripts on this page. Also, a 'Welcome to Windows' box is right at the bottom which when you click on it opens out into a big white box on the screen with nothing in it.

I have no idea, and do not have the technical knowhow, to get rid of it. Could really do with someone to guide me through it step by step - are you that person for the job Urbanite???

I'd love to help but its not too easy to point a finger in any direction with the details you have supplied so far.
    What is auto started?
What is running in Task Manager?
Have you tried a 'step by step confirmation' boot in Safe Mode (hit F8 on boot)?
The error is prolly caused by a conflict with a 3rd party software or driver rather than it be a M$ Windows error.
Dont suppose you want to give me remote access sometime? Its much easier to find a fault while you are sat at/ logged into a terminal.

This message box error only came up after I had installed Windows ME - I installed nothing else at that particular time - it did not happen at any time with Win98. In the tray at the bottom of the screen I get a box which states "Welcome to Windows", but when I left click on it to open it up I get a large white blank. Nothing comes up with a right click.

    I get a message:

    Internet Explorer Script Error
An error has occurred in the script on this page
    Line: 45
    Char: 1
Error: Automation server can't create object
    Code: 0
    URL: File://C:\WINDOWS\Applic~1\Micros~1\Intro\content.hta
Do you want to continue running scripts of on this page? YES/NO

Whether I hit the yes or the no button, the result is the same. It gets rid of the box but I am still left with the Welcome to Windows in the bottom tray. However, it is just another irritating aspect of WinME that comes up each time I boot up.

As i said - not enough detail to offer a fix.
Prolly easiest way to fix it is to replace the content.hta file in your windows directory, or remove the registry key that calls that function.
