reclaiming bank charges

I am keen to start the procedure of claiming back my bank and credit card charges. Can someone please answer these questions to put my mind at rest before I start?
Could I still claim from LLoyds/TSB if I open another bank account, transfer my direct debits and close my LLoyds account now, or does the account have to remain open?
I am assuming the banks will generally shut your account down. Is this usually the case, or only occasionally? If not then I would be jumping the gun by transferring to another bank striaght away.
Would changing bank accounts affect any future mortgage or loan application. I have been with LLoyds for 20 years.
Thanks

Don't move your account yet, just have another parachute option open in case.
It's not definite they will close your account.
If you do have to change banks, then your 'time with current bank' is a criteria that is sometimes used in credit scoring. It would be very hard to say how much of an effect it would have on any future applications.0 -

Hi nickmack,
I'm in a similar situation. I decided to go on a DMP and would like to claim bank charges as well. I already have an acc with a diff. bank. Could I start the process or should I wait (how long) till a DMP is up and running?
How do you calculate how much you can claim?
Many thanks,
