help - Mackenzie Hall

Options
My husband has just had a letter through from Mckenzie Hall saying its of a personal matter. As he is in the army, I rang to see what it was about.
I was greeted by a rude little madam who wouldn't tell me anything apart from I had to pay up - when I asked what for, she wouldnt say apart from the debt was from march 22nd this year (2011)! She wouldnt tell me anything apart from trying to get me to part with money, so I said she was rude and hung up.
She persisted and call me back, calling me all the names and trying to bully so I told her if she called again I would contact the authorities.

My husband has no debt, his record is clean, we have checked - so I have no clue what this so called debt is. I have contacted Cit Advice. Can someone please help as we have just lost his mother and really dont need this harrasment.

Many thanks

Checked his record? Do you mean his credit reference files?

If not, then check them. MH have a habit of putting black marks on, even if the debt is not legitimate.

If credit files are clear and they won't tell you what it is about, then it's probably best to just ignore them until they can be bothered to write saying exactly what it is about.

  • If you are not aware of any debt just don't speak to them hang up , you shouldn't get in to tit4tat arguments with them on the phone thats what they want .

Hey Fermi, thats what i meant lol - his credit/finances are clean...........but theres been a development.

My husband managed to call them - the account isnt even for him, someone else has the same first initial and surname...and the DOB doesnt match. They still wanted him to pay but he merely stated not to contact him again.

All this fuss and stress for nothing - angry they couldnt get their facts straight but relieved its nothing to do with us.

Many thanks to everyones comments and advice.
Good luck to anyone dealing with these rude people. x

It's a standard practice and just because you know full well you aren't responsible for this it doesn't mean you will not be pestered again. That you will get into telephone rows means they know they can wind you up, so if they can't (or are too lazy to) find the real man they will bother you again, or sell it to another DCA who will bother you again *sigh*. They really are scum. If/when you hear about it again ignore it. If they really get on your nerves you can send this, but as it's opening a dialog with them (for a debt you know for a fact you don't owe) it's a last resort, to be used after at least 2-3 more letters. If MH or another DCA threaten to take you to court then frankly this is good news. Have hubby turn up to the court, present some ID, show it's not him et voila, MH/whoever are in the shtt with the judge and you don't get bothered again.

Never speak on the phone with a DCA. If they call you refuse to answer security questions. They broke the law talking to you or calling you back and you can have thier !!!!!! kicked for it if you want.
I refuse to be afraid of the big bad wolf, spiders, or debt collection agencies; one of them's not real and the other two are powerless without my fear.
(Ok, one of them is powerless, spiders can be nasty.)

As of the last count I have cleared
    [STRIKE]23.16%[/STRIKE] 22.49% of my debt. :(

If there is any more agro, report them to the OFT.

That dreck yachneh has upset you and that's not right, especially when it has been proved it has nothing whatever to do with your husband. Her actions would have been deplorable and possibly illegal even if your husband had incurred the alleged debt but, as he was entirely blameless, her conduct was all the more egregiously scandalous.

In my considered opinion, either you or your husband should contact the Army Welfare Service with a view to seeking a significant (if not actually punitive and exemplary) account of damages from MacKenzie Hall.

I believe it is also downright hypocritical of MacKenzie Hall to treat an Army wife in such a manner, whilst they are boosting their egos by fundraising for Help for Heroes.

Never, ever talk on the phone to a DCA - and that's especially true of MH.

The only time phone contact is a good idea is when you're in a position to record them, and let them break enough OFT guidelines to make a formal complaint to all and sundry.
  • Send the letters mentioned above, then bill them for each letter plus 'administration costs'. I think about £50 a letter is reasonable.

Send them an invoice and then ring them about 15-20 times a day threatening court action until they pay what they 'owe' you.

If they still refuse to pay, sell the debt to Capquest or some other bunch of bottom-feeding scumbags :)

You may think I am being flippant and you would be right!

It would be far, far better to get the legal services department of the Army Welfare Services onto MacKenzie Hall, though a few rounds of HE might be more humane. :rotfl:
