Argh BT charging me for a service I've never had

On hold to BT... I've realised through being all MSE and actually studying my bills from them (they've sent me seperate bills and direct debits for every service for years) that they've charged me for an internet telephone on a monthly basis. Never had an internet phone... no idea what to do with one! It's not even clear on the bill that that's what it is, it's only as they've finally merged my bills that I've realised. I've phoned to cancel it and ask for a refund, and originally was told no as I've been receiving bills and should have noticed. Of course, my argument is I've received so many seperate bills for years I have no idea what each is for. Plus when I phoned to query amounts a while back they told me what i paid a month for BB and phone and never mentioned this amount... I wrote down the prices they quoted and it was not mentioned at all.

Needless to say I'm a little put out - especially as they've now admitted they've charged me it since april 2008.

I've explained I've been a customer for years, and stupidly trusted them not to stick things on my account that I've never asked for or without warning. Originally I was offered three months refund, then a year, and after speaking to the supervisor £100.

Is it worth pushing this further? I understand I've received paper bills for this and clearly should have noticed, but I did ask repeatedly for one clear bill every month, and I'm also annoyed they've declined to mention this service whenever I've phoned to ask about my other services. It seems very underhand and I'm tempted to cancel all my accounts with them.

You might get a 'goodwill gesture' but probably not all your money back. The issue is not that you never HAD the service, you did, just didn't know - and it sounds as though it was a VOIP service with an additional number. If you never agreed to taking out the service, there's wriggle room - but if they prove you did (as part of a package you took out) you're stuffed.....
