They havent arrived in my inbox as yet but the guy said it was clear water damage to the back of the eReader. I'll call them again in an hour to get them to resend.
Just got an acknowledgement email from Waterstones promising a response within 48 hours.Trying to become debt free but this site makes me spend a fortune!!!

I wish you luck, because if it's the same as mobile phones 'water damage' then I think it's one of the biggest cons on the market at the moment. If you don't know, mobiles have a moisture-triggered chemical strip inside them, which turns a different colour in response to 'water'. This can happen just by using the phone outside in cold weather and condensation forming. There was a story 6-7 months ago IIRC that someone was looking into the legitimacy of these things but haven't heard any more since.
Apple were well known for having these sensors in the dock connector and headphone socket. Then if either of them was red then they would refuse a repair.
The latest iPad 2 doesn't have either of these sensors and staff are now told to look for corrosion to the sim holder. So clearly these sensors are being triggered incorrectly, if Apple have now decided to remove them.0
